March 18, 2007 08:31 - Medicinal Herbs Are Natural, Safer And Effective Form Of Natural Healing

Dear Friends,

Medicinal herbs are a form of remedies that is holistic in its action. Botanicals heal in a natural, safe and effective way. Herbs heal in ways that are sometimes similar to drugs and many times transcend the ways drugs act.

Drugs act in specific ways on specific receptors. So they do have some specific change in physiological and pathological processes. Herbs can act like drugs on a particular receptor and action similar to that.

Further herbal actions are more general mainly because a single herb possesses hundreds of biologically active phytochemicals that have many times different and opposite actions. However, there lies the operative mind of nature. There lies the synergy and harmony of nature that balances with many seemingly opposite factors and elements.

The term adaptogenic was devised for this purpose as there had not been anything like this in conventional modern medicine. The overal enhancing of immune system and tone up of nervous system results in greater health and greater capacity to cope with stress. Adaptogenic action was found in natural medicinal herbs like ashwagandha or withania somnifera or indian winter cherry.

So to understand herbal actions we need to thinks beyond the box of conventional medical thinking. We need to understand the balance and harmony and synergy of nature. We need to align ourselves with the holistic functioning of nature and its products like herbal remedies.

March 27, 2007 21:16 - How Medicinal Herbs Can Be Presented In A Holistic Way?

Dear Friends,

It has been my attempt to present the information about medicinal herbs and herbal remedies in a balanced and holistic way. Then, the natural question is what kind of description or information is balanced and holistic.

The one approach is based on traditional uses and benefit of herbal remedies. Many of traditional benefits of medicinal botanicals are validated time and again by modern clinical research trials. So the traditional knowledge is reinforced.

Second approach is to follow modern phytochemical and pharmaceutical research and clinical trials. These studies are important as they are able to provide many practical and important information like dosage, phytochemical analysis, side effects, drug interaction, half life, fatal dose, drug accumulation in our body or its part and other related information. This kind of data is the need of present time as it will help to raise the status of botanicals to 'Herbal Medicine'.

Third approach is based on ayurveda's holistic and integral approach. Ayurvedic approach is based on the parameters of ayurvedic pharmacology like taste, after-digestion taste, active priniciple, specific effect and qualities. This approach is essential to choose herbs for the end user or individuals. The customization of single herbs or herbal formulation should be based along this approach.

Thanks to God that fortunately we are adopting this holistic and integral approach in presenting info about individual herbs as well as herbal formulations and herbal remedies. You can find it yourself in our description here. Find more info here>>>

March 31, 2007 15:12 - Herbal Pictures Help Us To Identify And Familiarize With Medicianl Plants

Dear Friends,

The pictures of herbs or their images or photographs help us to identify the botanicals and we become familiar with those plants that are not present in the geographical area we live. So we try to present the photographs or images of some of the ayurvedic herbs that are available locally. We would be adding more pictures when we get them by travelling to other areas.

Herbal pictures are supplemented with useful information about the particular botanical like brief history of plant, the habitat, about the plant - root, stem, leaves, fruits, flowers and seeds; harvest and cultivation.

You will find the pics and general information about several ayurvedic herbs like ashwagnadha or indian winter cherry, bacopa or brahmi, amla or emblic myrobalan, haritaki or chebulic myrobalan, vibithaki or beleric myrobalan, shaala, jamuna, bilva, vasa or adhatoda vesica, bakula or beed tree, arjuna or terminalia arjuna, country fig, mango, pomegranate, purging cassia, saraca ashoka among others. Find more about them. Find more info here>>>
