Habitat Of Amalaki Or Amla:The tree of Amla is found in India commonly up to the height of 4500 feet from sea level. Ayurvedic Varieties Of Amalaki:Two varieties of Amla are famous in ayurvedic medicine. Both varieties are scientifically same and the chief difference lies in the size of Amla or myrobalan fruit.
The Plant Of Amla or Emblic Myrobalan:The tree of Amla is medium in size approximately 25 to 35 feet in height. The bark is grey, thin and is in layers. The Leaves Of Amalaki:The petiole of leaves is long. The leaves are small and oblong, like wings. New leaves appear in March and April month. (That is why the herb pictures that you see on this page are without leaves as it is February now.) The Flowers Of Amla:Small and yellow colored flowers appear in bunches. Flowering season is from February to May. The Fruits Of Amalaki:The Amla fruit is small and spherical with 0.5 to 1.0 inch diameter. Unripe Amla fruit is yellowish greenand turns little brownish when ripe. Six lines run on the external surface that goes down from surface to seed and divides the fruit into six segments. The fruition period is from October to April. The Seed Of Amalaki:One hexagonal seed is found inside the fruit of Amla.
