Urinary Disorders
Ayurvedic herbs have the medicinal
values for Urinary diosreders. These can affect the frequency of the urine, the acute or chronic
urinary infections, the stones in the urinary tract - Kidney to Ureter to
Urinary bladders. Some herbs deal with renal function and help to preserve them.
Ayurvedic Herbs As
Diuretics:
Herbal Diuretics promote diuresis or production of urine.
Urine is dominant with Fire and Water element so both kind of herbs - with cold
or hot active principle are able to perform this action. e.g. Trinapanchamula
are the herbs with cold active principle. Maricha, Punarnava are the herbs with
hot active principle.
According to Modern Pharmacology Diuretic herbs perform their
action in various ways.

By increasing the number of active nephrons like Caffine,
Urea.

By increasing the blood supply to Kidney like Caffeine,
Hritapatri, Alcohol.

By reducing the ph of urine or by increasing the acidity of
urine like Navasadar.

By irritating the kidney and increasing the blood pressure
like Tailmakshika, Sour and alkaline herbs, Maricha, Hapusha, Kankola.

By reducing the reabsorption of water from the renal tubules
like Sugar, Salts, Cow urine.
Ayurvedic Herbs
Normalizing The Urine Color:
The color of urine is disturbed in many urinary diseases esp.
the Pitta based disorders. Most of these herbs are cold in active principle.
e.g. Kamala flower, Mulethi.
Herbal Urinary Lithontriptics:
Renal Lithiasis or Renal
calculus or Kidney stone is a common metabolic
disorder in which the stone is formed in Kidney. Sometimes it gets obstructed in Ureter. Mostly it causes pain in the loin region and sometimes UTI or Urinary
tract infection and Hematuria or blood in urine.
Some herbs break the stone in gravels or smaller pieces like
Kulattha, Pashanabheda. Some other herbs possess the Anti-lithic effect as well
as some diuretic action like Durva, Kasa, Gokshura.
Herbal Urinary
Astringents:
Urinary astringents reduce the tendency of frequency
micturition or going to pass urine after short intervals. Some of these herbs
are hot in active principle and they promote the nervous tone of Urinary bladder
muscles like Bhallataka. The other herbs are astringents and they reduce the
quantity of urine like Amra or Jamuna.
Ayurvedic Herbs As Urinary Anti-Septics:
Urinary Antiseptics are good for UTI or Urinary tract
infection. e.g. Chandana, Kankola, Boric acid.
