Citrus Medica Herb Pictures

Welcome to Citron or Citrus medica - This 'ayurvedic medicinal lemon' is also known as Bijora lemon or Matulunga. Lemon is called 'nimbu' in Hindi language. It is the medicinal lemon as its latin name suggests. See the herb pictures.

Habitat:

Nowadays it is found everywhere in India. It is commonly found in Himalayan region from Garhwal to Sikkim up to 4000 feet altitude from sea level. It is found specially in Asam, Middle India and in western coast of India.

Ayurvedic Varieties Of Citron:

Based on taste it is divided into two types.

  1. Sweet

  2. Sour

About The Plant:

This is a small tree with 10 feet height. It has small and thick spiked braches.

Leaflets:

These are oblong, with small petiole.

Fruits:

Fruits are oval and green when unripe. On ripening the fruit turns yellow in color. The peel of the fruit is thick and fragrant. The pulp of the fruit is usually sour and sometimes sweet in taste.
