Welcome to Country fig - This ayurvedic
herb is known by the name of 'Gular' or 'Udumbar'. Its latin name
is Ficus glomerata Roxb. It is also known as Cluster fig.
This ayurvedic herb is useful
as an astringent, anti-diuretic and for leucorrhea and menstrual disorders
and as a local application in wounds and ulcers.
Habitat:
It is commonly found in India.
The Plant:
The height of this tree is 30 to 50 feet. Its bark is
brownish grey in color.
Leaves:
Leaves are 3 to 4 inch long and lancet shaped with
pointed end. Fresh leaves appear in December to January.
Fruits:
Fruit is one to two inch in diameter. These are spherical
and are found in groups. Fruits are green when unripe and upon ripening these
turn red in color. Fruition period is March to June.
