The medicinal effects of Guggul

- Decoction of Darvi.
- Decoction of Patola.
- Decoction or cold infusion of Kusha.
- Cow urine.
- Ksar or Alkalis.
- Warm water.
Seasonal Guggul Adjuvants:
There is recommendation of taking some specific materials during a particular
season.
- During Summer and rainy season: With Clarified butter.
- During Autumn and Spring: With decoction of Triphala.
- During Early and Late Winter: With Cow urine.
Guggul Adjuvants & Humors:
Charaka further explained the use of different adjuvants according to humors.
- In Vata Disorders: Wine, Asava-Arista preparations, curd, sour items.
- In Pitta Disorders: Grape, Amla, honey, Madhuka, Parushaka, milk.
- In Kapha Disorders: honey, cow urine, astringents.
Sushruta emphasized that if other adjuvants are not available, water is the best
adjuvant. In Vata-Kapha disorders, use warm water and in Pitta disorders, use
cold water. (Sushruta Samhita, Sutra Section, 46/433-434)
Disease Specific Adjuvants Of Guggul:
- Edema: with cow urine or Punanava or Dasamula or Daruharidra or dried
ginger. (Chakradutta)
- Abscess: with decoction of Triphala. (Chakradutta)
- Internal Abscess: with Punarnava or Daruharidra or Dasamula. (Chakradutta)
- Upadansha: Patola, Nimba, Triphala, Kiratatikta. (Chakradutta)
- Obesity: The great five roots, Rasanjana, Shilajita. (Vagabhata)
- In Disorders Due To Excessive Fat Intake: Long pepper, Triphala, honey,
Terminalia chebula, cow urine. (Vagabhata)
- Urustambha: with Terminalia chebula, cow urine, Dhilajita. (Vagabhata)
- Constipation: with Triphala. (Yogaratnakara)
- Stiffness Of Joints: with decoction of Rasna. (Yogaratnakara)
- KrostukaShirsha: with decoction of Guduchi and Triphala. (Yogaratnakara)
- Gout: with decoction of Guduchi. (Yogaratnakara)
- Inflammatory Conditions Of Abdomen: with Terminalia chebula, dried
Ginger, Devadaru, Punarnava and Guduchi. (Yogaratnakara)
- In Pain & Eye Disorders: with Triphala, Vasa, Patola leaves, Nimba. (Yogaratnakara)
- In Fistula: with Triphala and Trikatu (long pepper, black pepper and long

- Lymphadenopathy or Lymph Glands Enlargement: with Vidanga, purified
Mercury preparations. (Bhava Prakasha Nighantu)
- Chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis & Osteoarthritis: with Shilajita. (Bhava

- In Dysmenorrhea or Painful Menstruation: with Garlic. (Bhava Prakasha
Nighantu)
- Abscess with malodorous pus discharge: with Triphala decoction. (Bhava

- Bone Fractures: with Terminalia arjuna, Laksha and Clarified butter.
