PROMOTING THE UNDERSTANDING:

Holistic health is one of the central theme of Ayurveda as well of this website. The first thing that comes is the begining to realize that the nature of our life is holistic. We are not a dissociated mass of some proteins, carbohydrate, fat and some other bio-chemicals.

We are living being, the primary source of being is the consciousness or our soul that is the root  and the foundation of all of that we can label as 'ours' - body, sentiments, feelings, emotions, thoughts, inspirations and the like.

The dawning of the awareness toward the holistic nature of our being comes automatically as we grow and mature in life as a result of experiences. This understanding and realization deepens and we begin to live in accordance with holistic principles spontaneously as something is guiding and motivating us from our inside.

All that we or anybody else can do, could be no more than pointing or indicating or suggesting. We have to unmask this understanding and realization ourselves and then alone we would be able to chisel our lives spontaneously.

We have a series of articles on holistic health. They will offer you the basic frame work of which you could be aware by being aware of the soul and its functioning through the consciousness within ourselves.

THE HERBAL HEALTH CONTEST:

The contest of this month is the questions related to Holistic Health. For more information you can visit the pages again.

www.holistic-herbalist.com/holistic-health.html

The Query: Do you feel that we might have three dimensional nature - The causal or ideational, the pranic or energy, the physical one? Do you feel that they are functioning in us? Please explain.

The answer could be written in Feed back form at www.holistic-herbalist.com/contactus.html

The winner will declared in the next month's newsletter. And the prize for the winner will be the free Ayurvedic consultation from us - for some disease or some health condition, for yourself or your loved ones.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q:  Mr. Jagadish Tiwari from Mayur vihar, New Delhi, India.

The Arjuna or Terminalia arjuna based preparation "Abana" tablets from Himalaya drugs caused the trouble of flatulence. Even when some other Ayurvedist advised me to take this herb in other forms, the flatulence trouble occurred again. What is the cause of the flatulence?

Answer: Terminalia arjuna is having astringent taste and dry quality according to Ayurveda. If you take its decoction or other preparations having it as the chief ingredient, it might cause mild constipation and/or flatulence in some individuals.

You can use some other herbal additives with its decoction. Ayurveda describes a special way of taking arjuna after processing it in water and milk. The preparation is called Arjuna-kshira-paka i.e. the boiling of 'arjuna with milk'.

You can have more info regarding this at

MEET THIS HERB

Ashwagandha or Withania somnifera or Winter cherry

This is such a fantastic herb that everybody should use it in winter season. This herb is a great Immuno-modulator and adaptogenic. Taking it daily will boost your  immunity and keep your nerves and mind toned up.

The capacity of the mind to endure stress will be raised. Yes! the threshold of stress will go up. Plus the ill effects as a result of the stress will be nullified. In India, many young married and unmarried persons use this herb in winter season. It is best to take this herb with milk. Follow the lead of Ashwagandha at

KNOW ABOUT THIS CONDITION

Mild Constipation:

Exactly this is not constipation of the order in which one doesn't evacuate the bowel daily. Here one does feel that the evacuation is insufficient or it should be a little more. Alternatively these persons might feel some flatulence and some other common abdominal complaints.

If you want to relieve these symptoms, you can use Terminalia chebula or Haritaki. Its powder and tablets and capsules are available and you can choose anyone suitable to you. Know about Haritaki or 'the gentle cleanse' at

BE RESOURCEFUL WITH

The Great-triad of Ayurvedic Books

Yes, the set of three books are considered as the great triad that should be studied by all the Ayurvedists and herbalists.

They are:

  1. Charaka Samhita - In one sense Charaka is considered as 'The Father of Indian Medicine'. This is one of the biggest written treatise of Ayurveda and perhaps all of the Medicine. It is wonderfully elaborative and compulsory.
  2. Sushruta Samhita - Sushruta is 'The father of Indian Surgery'. This is the best and ancient most treatise of Surgery in Ayurveda.
  3. Ashtanga Sangraha - This manual was written by Vagbhatta. He had the synthetic approach and used the above mentioned two works in a way to highlight the best of the two in one.

These books are available in Sanskrit, Hindi and English.

HERE IS THE HERBAL COMPOUND:

Ashwagandhadi Churanam

This Ayurvedic herbal powder contains two herbs in equal proportions. Aswagandha root powder and Vridhadaruka or Vidhara or Argyreia speciosa Sweet. are powdered and mixed with equal quantity of sugar candy or sugar.

This is freely available at Ayurveda stores. It can be taken in the dosage of 1/2 to 1 teaspoonful or 2 to 5 gm. twice a day.

This powder is good for degenerative disorders, for convalescent persons, for those who complain of decreased stamina or fatigue or weakness. This is ideal for increasing the strength of the body.

HERBAL HOME REMEDY

Arjuna Paste in Acne

Take the bark of Terminalia arjuna or its powder. Make its paste with honey and apply it to the acne. Within some time the acne will disappear. Plus it will help to remove the marks of the acne or pimples.

HEALTH VIA KITCHEN

We use some spices in Indian cooking. Everywhere people use the spices in cooking to prepare various food articles to add flavor, to make them easy to digest.

Ayurveda uses the term 'Sanskara' for preparing the eatable version of raw foods. The breads, the curries, the desserts are all prepared after the proper 'Sanskaras'.

This word literally means 'Transforming the qualities, or Infusing better qualities'. This word is also used when good habits and values are instilled in children and adults.

So with the right use of spices, we are adding value to our food. This food is made suitable to our constitution and helps us to remain healthy and stay away from diseases.

THE GREAT NEWS

I know presently that only a few people are reading this newsletter now. But I am happy to tell you that I used to visit saints and seek their blessings. In this course, I happened to meet one person whom I will call 'The Ayurvedic Saint'. I want to tell you about him in this first newsletter because I feel it auspicious for me to write about him. Yes right before joining the Ayurveda as a student, I was more interested in following Yoga, meditation and the spiritual path.

I happily graduated from Ayurveda but found only a handful of persons in India and abroad (I have never visited outside India but I have read about many and their works and met some persons). I know all the big names that might be coming to your mind. And I found only Swami SadaShiva Tirthaji, The founder of www.ayurvedahc.com to be the person who is having the genuine approach toward Ayurveda - The original approach that was had by the great seers who propounded Ayurvedic principles. I am greatly inspired by his spirit. And I am too much joyful to work with him for the cause of Ayurveda and Holistic Health.

I am proud to join ISHTAA - International Spiritual Holistic Thinkers Ayurveda Association, www.ishtaa.org. I feel blessed to conduct a lecture on Holistic Health to the students of Allied medical fields on behalf of Ishtaa. This has been our first social service promoting the cause of Ayurveda and Holistic Life.

READERS LETTER

This is the first issue of the newsletter. At present I am waiting for your reply and feed back.

We will be happy to receive your comments and will be more than happy to add some the features that you will suggest.

This newsletter will be for the people. All that will be asked will be here.

THANK YOU

Best Regards

With Love and Prayers for The Health of All
