Yes, mercury has soared new heights and everyone is seeking one's own
chilling experience. And we are again late. There is some important point.
Holistic Herbalist planned to offer free e-books to its subscriber. First we
thought to provide the e-books as free gifts for all. Later it was decided
that freebies will be given to newsletter subscribers only.
Yes, you will receive every month in the newsletter that you would have
in your mailbox the links to free e-books. Our present booklet is ready with
all practical info. However, all the pics that I used are taken from 5.1
mega pixel Sony professional camera. The size of merely 15 pages is 10 MB.
Too much to download for users without broadband.
I am trying again with the pics so that the size of e-book will come to
normal and our dear subscribers will get it very soon. May be in two days.
Definitely. It will be worth your weight.

THEME OF THE
MONTH
Interview Of Dr B. S. Sharma : "Salient Features Of Ayurveda In
Pediatrics"
We invited Dr Praveen Choudhary and Dr B.S. Sharma as the chief guest and
guest of honor on Annual function of National Integrated Medical Association
(NIMA, Baraut).
As promised in last month's newsletter, we present you with our
interactions with Dr B. S. Sharma. A person with MD in Ayurvedic Pediatrics
is also quite rare to find and he is one such gem.
HH: What are the key areas where you feel that Ayurveda
could contribute in the scenario of health and diseases of children?
Dr Sharma: Yes, this is a very good question to ask. We need
to brainstorm and find what are the fields in Pediatrics where Ayurveda
could contribute positively.
Right from the start, immunity boosting can be greatly enhanced with the
use of Ayurvedic medicine in children as well as adults. Ancient ayurvedists
mentioned a procedure wherein we administer Gold or Suvarna bhasma to
infants just after birth. Gold preparations are famous to enhance immunity.
There are scores of choices that can be used to improve the power to keep
away diseases and common infections. We have a good number of electuaries or
'avaleha' or herbal jelly like products that prove to be with good
compliance in children. Chyavanprahsa avaleha is famous among them.
Other fields with great potential are - memory enhancing, for proper
growth, disorders of digestive system, hepatitis, better substitute of Oral
Rehydration Solution, paralytic disorders, growth retardation, mental
retardation, Attention deficit hyperactive children, respiratory troubles
like - bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, allergic rhinitis, nasal
polyps, sinusitis, tonsillitis, skin disorders, acne and much more.
HH: Is there description of herbal dosage adjustment in
ancient Ayurvedic literature?
Dr Sharma: Ancient ayurvedic texts mention the exact dosage
of herbal supplements on the basis of age. Right from the infancy to
adolescent age to adulthood, there is description of dosage.
Further we use the leveraging knowledge of Ayurvedic medicine in this
regard. For example, the dosage of paracetamol for a child weighing 10 kg
will be same in modern medicine. Yet Ayurvedic medicine considers several
other factors as season, time of day, predominant ayurvedic humor, condition
of patient and the like, before determining the dosage.
We can adjust the formulation directly or indirectly by supporting the
main herbal medicine with adjuvants appropriate for the particular disease.
HH: What kind of patients do you see in your OPD and what
type of patients do you have in Indoor hospital?
Dr Sharma: Usually we don't have many emergency or urgent
patients in our hospital. Most of the admitted patients suffer with -
diarrhea, respiratory infections, paralytic disorders, for panchakarma
therapy.
We have great number of OPD patients that get ayurvedic treatment.
HH: You mentioned Ayurvedic panchakarma treatment for
children and we know that it is not practically used in most Ayurvedic
hospitals. Can you give some references for this sort of treatment?
Dr Sharma: Yes, most ayurvedic doctors still feel that
panchakarma therapy is not for children. There are several references for
such kind of panchakarma therapy in Ayurvedic texts.
The most important aspect of doing panchakarma in children should be -
softer modalities in mild form should be used; only mild form of Vamana,
Virechana and Basti can relieve the conditions. Further there is provision
of purification therapy in breast feeding mother (or breast feeding lady
substitute) when children suffer from diseases that are related to quality
of milk.
Actually this is one of the most important aspect of Ayurvedic pediatrics
that is not found any where else. There are some diseases in infants that
are caused by the vitiation of milk. Usually the treatment is given to
breast feeding lady and the trouble with infants are remedied itself.
We didn't get the permission of Dr B. S. Sharma for our visitors who feel
to contact him. As Usual, you can go to
Contact Us & Feedback Form and post your query to us.
Thanks Dr Sharma,
Dr Vikrama
PROMOTING THE
UNDERSTANDING HOLISTIC HEALTH : The Information Triad
There is one triad of information - Information, Knowledge and Wisdom.
Come let us be introduced how and when crude information gets transformed
into wisdom.
When we get some information, some crude information, that is the first
step toward wisdom. After processing this information, we begin to use it in
our practical life or we start to utilize this piece of information. Then we
arrive at the point where information is power.
Information opens the path of making informed choice. It is our
knowledgeable sense how we act upon that information. Knowledge starts from
the point of when it assists us in making right choices.
By acting upon the right choices and bad choices as well, we gradually
find the spontaneously empowering wisdom being ingrained within ourselves.
Wisdom come from - thinking, choosing, acting, done with that and with
experiences.
Wisdom is the knowledge ingrained in our character.
THE HERBAL

This months right answer goes with Sapna mukherji from Sri Lanka.
QUESTIONS &
ANSWERS
Abdul Zaid From Riyad
I am taking Triphala for Atonic constipation. It is providing some
relief. Other medications are not that much helpful like senna based
formulations. Are there any better options?
Reply:
Atonic constipation is due to weakness of muscles of rectum and colon.
Usually nerves are also involved. Triphala is a good and mild cleansing
formula that can be used throughout the year.
Triphala guggul is a better choice as it has Triphala and guggul. Guggul
takes care of nerves and Vata factor. Triphala guggul can be used for
several months together and later it can be followed up by Triphala alone.
One can do some exercises that stimulate the muscles of small and large
intestine. We provide the complete set of those exercises and Yoga postures
in our paid consultation.

Later Vagbhata presented his versions of Ayurvedic texts. There are two

is relatively concise and is rich in poetic verses. The later is considered

THE GREAT NEWS
Last month, we shared the begining of professional holistic consultation on
holistic herbalist. The process is going on and very soon we will be
offering our service. The holistic health consultation will begin in June
month.
We have planned an ebook. It would be coming shorty on
www.holistic-herbalist.com.
The best thing is that this introductory book for young childern and kids
would be a great resource for moms!
YES! this ebook is ready. And we plan to offer it
only to subscribers of this newsletter. Its link will be sent to
your mail box very soon. Actually all the photos were taken from Sony
professional camera 5.1 mega pixel, so the file size of only 15 pages is 10
MB. Too much. We are rectifying this trouble.
HEALTH VIA
KITCHEN : Indian Lemonade
Mothers! you
can pay a little attention for including the balanced diet in your family.
You will reap great dividends in the form of better health and intelligent
minds.
The Recipe:
Take one glass of water and few cubes of ice from your refrigerator. Cut
one lemon into two halves. Take the half portion and add its juice to the
water. Add one or two teaspoonfuls of sugar.
Mix the sugar with the spoon. Filter the great tasting Indian Lemonade
and serve it to one person.
This is called 'Shikanji' in India. This is one of the best soft drinks
in summer. It gives instant energy like glucose drinks. It aids in digestion
and soothes the nerves as well.
The best point is that we can prepare it and serve in a record time of
just two minutes. Enjoy the great taste!
We want to add some points to the above preparations.
We can alter the above lemonade preparation a little. Add some salt as
well and you have altogether different taste. It can also be used in summer
when you have returned from out door and you are sweating. It will be a
great drink to energize you and keep you fresh.
Another version is possible in India. There are some 'Shikanji Masala' or
Lemonade spices. Lemonade spice is added in place of salt. It renders the
lemonade even greater refreshing taste.
READERS LETTER
As we are quite quick to answer the
queries to holistic herbalist that are sent via feed back form, we have many
happy and satisfied friends abroad that thank us for such a warm and
speedier response even though this website is still free of any paid
services.
Presently we had one suggestion from one friend and who has great knowledge
on herbs. He pointed out one potential error about the pictures of one herb.
We are checking that trouble and if it is found, it will be rectified
immediately. We do need that kind of support. Thanks.
We are thankful of all of them and
would look further to serve you all better and better. THANK YOU
