THEME OF THE
MONTH
Interview Of Dharamavira Singh Malik, Circle Officer, U.P. Police -
Focused Living For Performing His Duty And Becoming A Change Agent:
I had planned to interview only doctors and patients earlier. Later I
thought that Ayurveda and its principles of holistic medicine are universal
and what I should present here in the interview section should be truly
inspiring personality.
Mr. D.S. Malik is a Circle officer of State Police department. This post
is equal to Deputy Superintendent of Police or Assistant Commissioner of
Police elsewhere.
The doctors of all systems of medicine (Allopathy, Ayurveda and
Homeopathy) in my hometown, Baraut, gathered in a tea party as a farewell to
the great service offered by this police officer.
It was my first chance to meet him in person. I shared thirty minutes in
an absorbing private session and four hours in a meeting of forty doctors.
After spending this much time, I made up my mind to write about him. This
might not appear as an interview, still, I am convinced that you would like
it.
Illiterate Mother's Finger Pointing Lesson:
DS belongs to a simple farmer family and he is the first person in his
family to be an officer in Police department, rather an officer.
Before joining police services, he asked his farmer mother, "Give me some
teaching. Do you want me to remember something?"
Her illiterate mother paused for a minute and then very simply and
intelligently mentored to his educated son, "There are two kinds of finger
that people raise toward some person. First one is says that look at this
person how wonderful he is and his manner of service. And second finger says
that it is this disgusting and nasty person. So I wish that whenever people
point toward you, that finger should be of first kind."
DS mentioned in the doctors' gathering that this became a lifelong
lesson for me. Whenever I find free time, I usually think that my actions
are of first type or second type.
Truly every mother possesses this expressed or unexpressed wish for his children that
people will point toward my children with dignity, respect and goodwill.
Shouldn't we heed to this wish of our mothers?
Give People Respect And They Will Maintain Your Dignity:
DS mentioned that his first posting was in his native area. There was
crime and he used a altogether different technique to help people surrender
to police themselves.
DS told that when he used to go in some villages to arrest criminals. He
asked them that police force could easily arrest you now and it is better if
you surrender yourselves to police station.
He mentioned that simple and illiterate villagers do have their dignity
and I never try to take away that dignity. Almost in every such case, the
criminal reached the police station and surrendered himself to police
custody.
-------
-------
DS asked that people do consider police department in an unfriendly and
disrespectful way. He gave the example that when some simple constable or
cop came to see a doctor, doctor's assistant simply tells the doctor that
police person had come.
On the opposite, everyone is displaying regard for other professionals
like teachers, accountants, lawyers etc. So he asked the people in general to
show regard for police department and they will be able to serve you better
with raised self-esteem.
Every person needs to be behaved in a graceful way. If we are able to
behave properly and communicate with our words our concern and respect, the
ball passes on to the other person. In most cases you will be behaved
favorably and with respect.
There are other good points that I would like to share in brief.
- Police is always in hurry and worry and they need to eat whatever curry
is presented so their abdomen are mostly bad. Here we are Sir!
- Whenever we are greatly apprehensive, it is only our hesitation to ask
help. Whenever we ask help, it will be arranged by GOD.
- People should not write such words in their application that qualify
to be written for GOD and saintly persons only.
- Be the first to welcome or show your regard or utter salutary remarks
to the other person, most people will change for you in that very moment.
Our farewell program went on from 7 pm to 10 pm and everyone enjoyed
the sharing of life with this retired and never tired person. He still helps
people to resolve their problems 26 (twenty six) hours of a day. I cherished
the good and inspiring moments with a memorable person who I can always miss
for this short company.

PROMOTING THE UNDERSTANDING HOLISTIC HEALTH - What Is Reiki Healing?
Reiki is a very popular healing method all over the world. This is a form
of begining of energy medicine.
The concepts of energy or Prana is given in Yoga and Ayurveda literature
in a detailed way. The Prana stands for universal as well as individual life
energy.
Prana is divided into five main types, five subtypes and fifty total
types. In Ayurveda and Yoga, various means of affecting our Prana are also
described like herbs, minerals, words or chants, behavior, affirmation,
visualization, initiations and meditation.
The word Reiki also means Universal Life Energy. This tradition
took birth from Japanese Master Mikao Usui. He found the energy
symbols of Reiki. Originally these are Japanese words but when their
chanting is done after Reiki initiation, the healing energy is always
present.
The healing energy of Reiki doesn't come from some outside source.
It is ever present, all permeating universal energy. We don't give our own
energy or Prana during Reiki healing and contrarily we are also energized
as well.
Reiki is natural healing as it can never harm any body. Even when
sometimes the symptoms of some disease or some emotions surface, that phase
is transitory and belongs to catharsis or purification by energy.
Reiki simply can never go wrong or do wrong to anybody. If we are
doing Reiki with wrong intentions, we will be naturally targeted first by
the healing energy of Reiki.
How Does Reiki Work?
Though universal life energy is present inside us and all around us. Very
few of us can consciously invoke this energy to flow inside us.
So the normal person first needs to be initiated or attuned with Reiki.
The initiation or attunement is done in steps. Usually Reiki initiation is
done in three or sometimes four steps.
Reiki one is the mild form of healing. It needs the physical presence of
the person whom you are going to heal.
Reiki second initiation is done with some additional symbols and the
healer is able to do distant healing. It is more powerful and physical
distance doesn't interfere with it. Psychological or emotional healing can
also be done.
Reiki third or master Reiki or Reiki four or Reiki Grandmaster initiation
enables the person to give initiation to other persons. Actually the
initiation word is not correct here. Attunement is the right word.
Like we tune radio to catch the particular signals or vibrations and we are
connected. Reiki functions in similar manner.
Use Common Sense With Reiki:
It is foolish to do only Reiki during acute infections like Malaria and
other conditions like fracture when you urgently need medical or surgical
aid. So use common sense and rather medical common sense and you can have
Reiki healing side by side of medical treatment.
We will deal more about Reiki healing in next newsletter.
Know About This Condition - Essential Fatty Acids And Their
Deficiency In Diet:
Whatever form of fat we take, it is broken down during digestion in small
intestine into fatty acids and triglycerides. Fatty acids are of two types -
Essential fatty acids that our body can't synthesize and we need them from
outside; Non-essential fatty acids that our body is able to synthesize
itself from other fat and we don't need them.
Essential fatty acids are of several types and the more information about
Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids is available.
Now there are clear studies that indicate the deficiency of essential
fatty acids is associated with the development of several disorders like
rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disorders, asthma, chronic skin
allergies and several other degenerative and aging related disorders.
Incorporating the essential fatty acids in diet can save us from many
disorders. So these should be present in our diet or we might need to
supplement them additionally.
Borage oil and evening primrose oil are the good sources of Omega 6
essential fatty acids. Cod liver oil and flaxseed oil are the good sources
of Omega 3 essential fatty acids.
QUESTIONS &
ANSWERS
Abdul Zaid from Dubai:
I am habitually constipated and I took olive oil 4 spoonfuls in night.
For some days it worked well, thereafter my mood became upset after taking
it. I do have low (read normal) cholesterol levels in my blood. Thanks,
Abdul Zaid.
Reply:
Olive oil is monounsaturated oil that is good as a part of dietary
supplement. But four spoonfuls of olive oil at bed time can upset your
digestion and particularly in a condition when it is not all right already.
In your case, it helped your abdomen and disturbed your mood. It might be
due to Vata disturbance because of worsening of digestion. So it is better
if you divide this dose of 'four spoonfuls' into three parts.
Still better advice is to take it with meals. Oils do provide unctuous
property in the body and we have smooth bowel movement. This part has been
OK with you.
But four spoonfuls had been over dosage for you so you have to divide
this dose and within a few days you won't feel bad moods and you will have
beneficial effect on constipation.

Rose Water For Radiant And Healthy Skin:
Rose water is distilled aqueous extract of rose petals. It is better that
fresh rose petals are used in preparing it. Most of commercial manufacturers are using dried rose
petals.
Rose water is a good skin cleansing agent that also has mild astringent
property. It will wash away with itself the extra foreign particles, dead
cells and oily substances over the skin.
Rose water will have a mild and natural antimicrobial action as
well. Skin will be supple and smooth.
Rose water can be used twice with cotton or it can be mixed in a
mug of water and then used to splash the face by handful of water several
times.
Always check its quality before using it. Take from a reliable source.
This water should not be with many sediments or with strong fragrance.

HEALTH VIA KITCHEN : Chapati Or Indian Bread
Chapati is the name given to Indian bread. In most homes, mothers prepare
breads for the family daily two times a day.
Unlike the bread slices that are available in the general store and that
can be stored, chapati needs to be prepared fresh even if it is ordered from
the restaurant.
Chapati is the basic preparation out of common cereals like wheat, maize,
oat and barley. Wheat chapatis are the most common.
Chapati is similar to other basic and traditional forms of breads
throughout the world. It is like 'Pita' of Middle East, or like the tortilla
of Mexico.
Wheat is stored in most families in rural and semi-urban India. Every
month or twice a month, wheat is sent to be grinded into wheat flour or
people purchase packed wheat flour from different companies.
Wheat flour is mixed with water into dough and then patted with hands
and/or rolled out and then thrown onto a hot griddle where it is baked by
changing upside down two or three times. After some baking, chapati is
lifted with tongs and is put over the flames and then it swells up with hot
air inside a rounded disc.
Hot air inside the chapati soon goes out and it takes a flat and circular
shape. Many people apply on one side ghee or clarified butter or butter.
Then, it is put in a basket or box to be served.
Chapati can be stored in hot case for only a few hours. it can't be
stored in refrigerator or outside for long times. It becomes hard and
doesn't taste that good. Most Indians enjoy warm chapatis that is served
directly from the griddle.
So chapati has certainly more love and affection of mother in India as
compared to other parts of world! It is simply associated with mothers love
and feelings.
