Homeopathic Treatment
Three Types Of Aggravation As The ABC Of Homeopathy Medicine
Aggravation in homeopathic treatment is the worsening of the condition of the patient. It is common
occurrence in the practice of any physician or doctors or healers of all system
of medicine or therapy. There is worsening of the clinical features of the
patients or simply the presenting complaints with which the patient approached
the physician for help. The general health of the patient may deteriorate or he
might not feel comfortable.
For
example, one person approaches Dr X with breathing difficulty as is commonly
found in the patients of Bronchial Asthma. Homeopathy doctor suggested him the medication.
After taking medicine, the breathing difficulty increases, there is cough, or
there are other associated or not associated complaints like diarrhea, nausea,
vomiting, fever, eruptions, urticaria, headache, restlessness. All of these are
the examples of aggravation. The term ‘aggravation’ includes the side effects,
adverse effects or toxic effects as well.
In the
practice of homeopathy we find several types of aggravation and it is necessary
for the practitioners of homeopathy to actively recognize the nature of
aggravation. It is equally informative for those persons who like to get good
information on homeopathy and the persons who are seeking homeopathic treatment.
Homeopathy is a great system of medicine where medicines are the agent that work
on the level of vital force. Actually many a persons object to the reality of
such level. However we can find its references in all the religious, spiritual,
yoga, energy healing circles like reiki or pranic healing, and some modern
scientific circles like Kirlien photography.
Aggravations are classified into three categories in Homeopathy.
-
Disease aggravation
- Drug
aggravation
-
Homeopathic aggravation
Disease
Aggravation In Homeopathic Treatment:
Disease
aggravation is used when the deterioration of the condition is patient is due to
the advancement in the disease process. Usually it is present when the patient
has advanced state of a disease or when the disease has reached a stage that
complications begin to appear.
There is
no relief in the complaints of the patients and the complaints are increased in
intensity and duration. There is need for reevaluation of the treatment plan by
the homeopathic doctor.
Drug
Aggravation In Homeopathic Treatment:
Drug
aggravation is used for the condition when there is no relief in the complaints
of the patient and he starts to have the added symptoms of the particular
homeopathic medicine.
Suppose,
you give Nat. Mur. (A common homeopathic remedy) to hypertensive patient. He
returns and tells his doctor that there is no relief in hypertension and he is
experiencing some other symptoms. These other symptoms can be related with his
disease or totally unrelated. In this example, he may complain about swelling,
increased blood pressure, headache, restlessness.
These
symptoms whether related to presenting complaints or not, are actually the the
added symptoms of homeopathic medicine. In this case, there is a need to reevaluate
the treatment plan and give the patient another suitable remedy.
Homeopathic Aggravation In Homeopathic Treatment:
This
particular type of aggravation is commonly seen in homeopathic treatment. It is
present in chronic cases of various disorders. In acute cases, it is quite
transient. Like in viral fevers like flu or influenza, temperature goes up for a
few hours after taking homeopathic treatment. So it is easily overlooked in
acute cases.
This
aggravation is a reaction of our vital body. Usually it is believed that some
set of suppressed symptoms are behind this kind of aggravation. Suppressed
symptoms might be related to recent past or several years back. When we suppress
some symptom, it goes deep into the vital body and manifests as another set of
symptoms and as a new disease. This is very common phenomenon.
There is
not much written about vital body in either homeopathy or any other system of
medicine except Ayurveda. Ayurvedic medicine deals with vital or life energy at
different levels. Five main, five subtype and a total of fifty kind of life
energies are described in ayurveda.
Being an
ayurveda physician, I have seen this phenomenon in my clinical practice as well.
Many children who comes to me with Bronchial Asthma were old patients of
allergic rhinitis and they abused antihistaminics and blocked the symptoms of
allergic rhinitis. This is perfectly normal treatment from modern medicine point
of view. But this practice was later found to be associated with development of
Bronchial Asthma.
Homeopathic aggravation is a good sign in patients with chronic disease if it
occurs. This is the sign of detox or cleansing of the vital essence or vital
body. Actually what are the signs that can help us to distinguish this type of
aggravation from the other two in Homeopathy system of medicine?
There is
a definitive and very subtle difference that can easily be overlooked even by
the homeopathic doctor occasionally. As the patient vital body is getting cleared or detoxed, the person feels a general sense of relief or well being inside despite
the opposite situation that symptoms of the disease might be increasing. This
feeling of being relieved or wellbeing is the sure sign that therapy is going on in
right direction.
Suppose
some person seeks homeopathic treatment for skin allergy. After some duration,
he came again to homeopathic doctor and told that the secretion of the allergy is increasing
and it appears to be worse but I am feeling relieved inside.
Or
someone with Asthma sought homeopathic treatment and after some treatment, he
returned and spoke to doctor that the dyspnea is getting worse and there is more
cough but I am feeling some comfort inside. There can be altogether different
kind of aggravation like running nose in bronchial asthma, diarrhea in asthma,
These
are the practical and subtle examples of aggravation in Homeopathy. The
physician as well as the person who is getting homeopathic treatment should be well informed
and aware of them. We can know whether the treatment is proceeding in right
direction or not. Whether there is requirement to change the homeopathic treatment or
continue the same treatment. So find a better health and happiness with
Homeopathy.

to Dr Virendra Tyagi’s Homeopathy clinic and both of them began discussing this
topic. Suddenly Dr Vikrama picked up the paper and jotted down the few key lines
