Brief History Of Kava:

It was the beverage (Non-fermented) of choice of Royal families of South Pacific. It was suggested to originate in Melanesia (Vincent Leot). It grows abundantly in Polynesia.

Captain Cook, during his voyage to Pacific (1768 -71 ), was the first person to know about its diverse uses and he took its knowledge for the first time to other countries. It plays a central role in the Pacific islanders religious, social, political life - during recreational and social gatherings, divination ceremonies, kinship and chiefship rituals, official decisions and much more.

It enjoys the same prominent position as is enjoyed by peyote in some native American tribes, Coca leaves in Peru and Opium in Middle East and Asia. Natives of Vanuatu can recognize 247 varieties of P. methysticum.

Habitat:

It is an indigenous plant of South Pacific islands, and now of Hawaii also.
