Welcome to Pomeganate - This ayurvedic herb

Habitat:
This plant is grown
specifically in Iran, Afganistan and Baluchistan. It is grown in India. Udhampur
is the storage center of Pomegranate.
Ayurvedic Varieties Of
Punica granatum:
According to Ayurveda it is divided into three varieties based
on its taste.

Sweet
-
Sweet and sour
-
Sour
There are many varieties of
this plant based on habitat, color and size of the plant. The variety 'without
seeds' and 'kandhari' (originating in Kandhar of Afganistan) is considered the
best.
The Plant Of
Pomegranate:
This is a medium
sized tree with 10 to 15 feet height. The bark is smooth and grey in color. The
braches sometimes have spikes.
Leaves:
The oblong leaves
are narrow at both ends. Leaves are 2 to 3 inch long and 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide.
Flowers:
There are orange
red or yellowish flowers either singly or in groups of two to four. Flowering
occurs in April to May.
Fruits:
This is spherical, two
to three inch in diameter. The peel is hard, with leathery feel. The inside of
the fruit is divided into many angular segments. The seeds are also angular with
a succulent, juicy reddish or pink or white covering. Fruition occurs in July to
September.
